Where to stay in San Niccolo, Florence

San Niccolo climbs the south bank of the Arno below Piazzale Michelangelo. Firenze at half speed: a residential slope of ochre walls, five kitchens per street, and the sunset viewpoint five minutes uphill. The Duomo is fifteen minutes on foot across Ponte alle Grazie. Book here on a return visit, or on a first visit if you plan to walk more than you plan to queue.

Practical tips

  • The Piazzale Michelangelo climb is a real climb. Take the rampe steps or bus 12/13 on hot afternoons.
  • Hotel choice is thin here (fewer than a dozen properties). Book earlier than for the Duomo cluster.
  • Restaurants are locally-priced. Zeb on Via San Miniato and Il Rifrullo for aperitivo are the two anchor stops.
